Some of what's discussed:

8 Business ebooks by Seth Godin - free

I love a good freebie and if you run a business you should know the value of Seth Godin's books. If you aren't familiar with his work, pop over to his blog for an idea of what he's all about.

All 8 books below can be downloaded free!

Canadian Bargain Sites

When I started Frugal Victoria, I couldn't find any Canadian coupon or freebie sites but there are plenty now. Three that I consistently follow are Bargain Moose, Smart Canucks and Frugal Freebies -- all of them offer links to great deals in Canada, though some are not available Canada-wide.

If you are looking for coupons or free offers, be sure to follow all three sites as the content overlaps but is not the same between the sites.

The Grocery Grind

Getting groceries can be a time-consuming and frustrating task -- especially when you are on a tight budget. Even now that grocery stores now put their flyers online, it can be tedious going to each site to check for the weekly deals.

If you don't get the weekly newspapers there are some other options:

Flyerland.ca -- sign up and receive local grocery flyers (or almost any flyer) weekly.

Slipper Patterns (free download!)

Summer is a great time to knit small things like slippers (as opposed to big things like blankets that sit on your lap making you even hotter!) -- make plenty to last you and your family through the winter months!

Designed to be knitted with PolarKnit™ Chunky, these slippers and socks will knit up pretty fast and if you can get the gauge right, you can make them with scraps and oddments of other yarn you might have stashed.

Books and bits of books

If you ever read Calvin and Hobbes and wondered about the man behind the comic, you might be interested in the forthcoming book by Nevin Martell; he is offering a free chapter for a limited time; just send an email to lookingforcalvinandhobbes@gmail.com [More about Looking for Calvin and Hobbes]

Simple Dollar's Free Advice

Over the years, the Simple Dollar has offered lots of advice on making and keeping money; now they have put it all together into one free downloadable 50-page ebook called, “Everything You Ever Really Needed to Know About Personal Finance on Just One Page”

Yes it says it's just one page but also 50 pages -- that's because the first page is a diagram and the other 49 pages are the details. Download it from the Simple Dollar

Save at the Supermarket

This month, Consumer Reports lists 13 ways to save at the supermarket.

Desktop Bling

  • Pixelgirl Presents showcases an amazing variety of free wallpaper (desktop and iphone) and icons (for Mac and PC) plus some basic tutorials on how to swap icons and other helpful hints.
  • Shawnimals has made available a set of desktop wallpaper and also a whole series of icons featuring his simple but cute characters.
  • If zombies and goths are more your style, check out the wallpaper and icons from the Orneryboy web comic.

Downloadables and other digital freebies

The web is full of free stuff. Instructions, icons, desktop wallpaper, recipes, books, music, and more. I thought it was time to start collecting some of this stuff in one place, so here it is.

Got a link for a great downloadable or digital freebie? Let me know!
