Self-Guided Heritage Walks

By eromsaly - Posted on 15 September 2008

The City of Victoria has created 4 self-guided heritage walks, highlighting distinct facets of our city's history. I saw the pamphlets at the Bay Centre customer service desk and looking through them I think it would be a fun way to spend a few hours with (older) kids or to show out-of-towners that we're not all tea and crumpets! From the Arts, Heritage & Culture Guide, Fall/Winter 2008: The Secrets Are Out! Four walks to choose from. These four upbeat, informative tours with easy-to-follow maps are a great way to explore Victoria. "Fools Rush In": The clinking of glasses and the smell of canvas and horses-these were the rollicking times of the Gold Rush era. "Forbidden City": Tales from the secret city within the city- go back to when Canada's first Chinatown was born. "Happy Hauntings": Ghosts, ancestral spirits-expect the unexpected when you take this tour through the country's most haunted city. "Law and Disorder": Robbery, murder and deadly lovers' triangles- stories of criminals and Victoria's lawmen. The guides are available at City Hall, Tourism Victoria Visitor Info Centre, offices of the Downtown Victoria Business Association and Provincial Capital Commission, or visit www.victoria.ca/tours to print a copy.
