DIY Seed Tape
Seed tape is a relatively recent consumer good -- seeds are spaced between layers of tissue paper at the best distance to reduce the need for thinning. However, seed tape is sold at a premium -- generally $1 to $2 more than seeds alone.

Luckily, it's fairly easy to make your own using newspaper strips and flour & water paste. It's a great winter weekend project to get ready for spring planting.
Tear newspaper into strips no more than 1 inch wide. Using a pastry bag (or a freezer bag with the corner cut off) place dots of flour and water paste at the distance recommended on the seed packet. Dab one seed on to each dot. When the paste is dry, roll the strip up and place in a labelled bag until ready to plant.
