KidSport Program Update!!

Remember that KidSport’s goal is…”to ensure that kids from low income families can participate in a season of sport.”

To clarify here is an update from KidSport email:

“First is that the service is intended to be for those who can’t afford a season of sport (not just anyone who likes to save money) so we do have financial guidelines on the application form as to who would qualify.  Second is that we do not fund sport camps. We do provide funding for kids to play in leagues but all day sport camps do not qualify.”

Hope this sets things straight – Thanks KidSport!!

Farmers Markets

I am pleased to see that local Farmer’s Markets have begun in our area again. It has been our family tradition from Spring through Fall to get up each Saturday and go to our local Farmer’s Market to load up on eggs, vegetables, bread and, at this time of year, starter plants for our small garden.

Saturday has many Farmer’s Markets. Here are a two (check out our calendar for more information): Moss Street 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and North Saanich 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM.

If you live downtown, you can get your veggies at the Victoria Downtown Farmer’s Market every Wednesday 12 noon to 5 pm in Market Square until November 1st.

Metchosin Farmer’s Market, the only Sunday market around, starts May 20, 2012 from11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and runs through the end of October.

If you know of more in our area, please let me know so we can add them to our calendar.

Just one more thing…I would strongly encourage you to support your local farmers. There is no better way to feed your family than with truly fresh produce. Most Farmer’s Markets can be a great place to ask questions about you own gardens and, of course, meet people who are like minded. Happy Marketing!!

Recreation Centers and Summer Programs

You are probably already thinking about summer with the good weather popping in as of late. Our Recreation Centers have some great summer programs for kids and adults. Here is a list of the Rec Centers in our area:  http://www.fitinfitness.ca/recreation.html

After doing this search, I came across the L.I.F.E. program (Leisure Involvement For Everyone) At the website it says,  “LIFE is a program that makes fitness opportunities accessible for families with limited incomes at Greater Victoria recreational facilities. (Victoria, Sooke, Saanich, and Westshore)”  http://www.fitinfitness.ca/shared_life.html

Please check with your Rec Center for more information – http://www.fitinfitness.ca/active_contacts.html.
